An officer from the Yorktown Police Department was dispatched to the Spring Store on East Main Street in Mohegan Lake on Sept. 27, where there was a report of a stolen phone that had been taken from the store on Sept. 18.
Police said that after investigating the complaint and surveilling the store’s security footage, the officer was able to identify the suspect implicated in the theft of the phone. After interviewing the boy from Mohegan Lake - whose name has not been released - and his mother, the stolen cell phone was recovered.
Investigators charged the boy with juvenile delinquency, which police noted is the underlying charge of petit larceny if the act had been conducted by an adult. He was issued an appearance ticket to appear at the Westchester County Department of Probation on Oct. 11 to answer the charge with his mother.
